SUMMARY:Go By Bike Week
DESCRIPTION:This year's Go by Bike Week will run May 31 June 6. Previously known as Bike to Work/Bike to School Week\, the campaign is designed to showcase cycling as a fun and useful mode of transportation with a ton of benefits\, from lower GHG emissions to improved mental and physical health.\n\nIn past years Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows businesses have shown their support for cycling as an important method of transportation by encouraging their staff to participate.\n\nWith so many people discovering or re-discovering the joys of cycling over the past year\, 2021 is shaping up to see extraordinary numbers take to the streets on two wheels during Go by Bike Week.\n\n\n\nHow businesses can participate\n\nIf you have several employees:\n\n- You can form a team and nominate a Team Lead. HUB Cycling\, the campaign sponsor\, provides a terrific guide for team leads to help promote participation at your workplace.\n\n- Register your team at btww.ca to track your kilometres\, be entered to win great prizes\, and see\n\nhow many greenhouse gas emissions you've saved together.\n\n- Other ideas:\n\no Get together over lunch to participate in daily webinars on topics such as Intro to City Cycling and Cycling for Sustainable Cities.\n\no Host a celebratory breakfast at the end of the week for those who've been cycling to\n\nwork.\n\n\n\nEven if you operate on your own\, you can participate in Go by Bike Week. The panel will feature Christian Cowley\, Executive Director of the CEED\n\nCentre Society\, who runs the Velorganics youth employment program using an electric cargo trike\; Jennie Wright from the Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows HUB Cycling chapter\; and Erin O'Melinn\, Executive Director of HUB Cycling.\n\nRegister for the MOTHERLOAD screening & panel discussion\n\n\n\nFree WEBINAR - Cycling in Metro Vancouver suburbs: Barriers & Opportunities\n\nTo wrap up Go by Bike Week\, HUB Cycling is presenting a bonus webinar on Monday\, June 7\, 12-1:00 p.m. on the need for safe cycling infrastructure in our suburban communities.\n\nPresenter Kay Teschke\, Ph.D. (Professor Emeritus\, University of British Columbia School of Population and Public Health) will offer some of her valuable insights into the cycling infrastructure needed to make people of all ages and abilities feel safe.\n\nAs the City of Maple Ridge has begun to update its 20-year Transportation Plan and is asking residents for their input\, this webinar offers a great opportunity for both decision makers and residents of our communities to learn how our streets can be made safer for cycling.\n\nRegister for the free webinar
