The City of Maple Ridge 2023 Annual Report is now available on the City’s website for public review at MapleRidge.ca/AnnualReport. A statutory document, the annual report will be received by Council at the June 25, 2024 Council meeting.
The City of Maple Ridge has been awarded the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officer Association for 33 consecutive years, the longest run of any City in Canada.
The theme of this year’s report is “City on the Move”, tying in the City’s Maple Ridge Moves plan which aims to diversify the local economy and attract good local jobs, broaden the tax base, and improve access to affordable housing and how people and goods move around the community.
2023 Highlights
The Annual Report provides a comprehensive overview of the City’s initiatives accomplished in 2023, including detailed audited financial statements and activities planned for the coming year that align with Council’s strategic priorities.
Highlights of key accomplishments related to Council’s strategic priorities featured in the 2023 Annual Report are:
Climate Leadership and Environmental Stewardship
- Launched a Mayor’s Task Force on Climate Action
- Completed a Climate Action Roadmap and began work on a Climate Action Plan
- Continued conversion of streetlights to energy efficient LED
- Developed a North and South Alouette Valley Flood response plan
- Began work on an Urban Forest Management Strategy
- Processed permits totaling $204.3 million in construction value and projects delivering 764 housing units
- Updated the Strategic Transportation Plan
- Widened Abernethy Way from 230 to 232 Street and improved Fern Crescent
- Launched Maple Ridge Moves advocacy campaign including support for TransLink’s Bus Rapid Transit Study and announcement of new rapid bus service from Maple Ridge to Langley
- Completed a new Fire Protection Master Plan
- Partnered with the RCMP on Project Dovetail, reducing shoplifting in the downtown core by half
- Opened a new 24/7 emergency shelter for youth
- Engaged community in design of a new park at Pazarena Place and a multi-use pathway at Port Haney
- Opened Tsuyuki Park and a new beach volleyball facility at Albion Sports complex
- Engaged community in planning a fourth ice sheet at Planet Ice and a new recreation facility
- Co-hosted announcement for $280-million provincial and federal investment in E-One Moli Energy Canada’s planned $1-billion lithium-ion battery plant
- Held a temporary employment job fair focused on the film industry
- Held an Economic Development Leadership Summit with participation from business, government, and community leaders
- Conducted a retail market analysis to be shared with retail and commercial land industry
- Developed and launched a new City brand and visual identity
- Implemented a new system for measuring and tracking strategic outcomes
- Developed and held three City Leadership Summits to generate dialogue and solutions on the topics of climate action, housing affordability, and economic development
- Established regular meetings between Council, local MP and MLAs, and Katzie (q̓ic̓əy̓) and Kwantlen (qʼʷa:n̓ ƛʼən̓ ) First Nations
- Began comprehensive City website update
- Launched Engage Maple Ridge platform to promote public participation

Submissions received after this and up to 12:00 pm , Monday, June 24, 2024 will be provided to Council at the meeting for their consideration. All submissions will be published.
