Pitt Meadows Receives Provincial Grant to Support a Community Viewing Event for the World Cup
PITT MEADOWS, BC – The City of Pitt Meadows has received $10,000 in funding from the Government of British Columbia through the 2026 Community Event Support Fund to support a community event that celebrates the World Cup called, “Pitt Meadows Cheers for Canada.”
The event will take place on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre. The free, family-friendly event will feature a live public viewing of a World Cup match, along with inclusive, intergenerational activities designed to bring the community together in a welcoming and accessible environment.
"We are thrilled to help communities throughout B.C. share in the excitement of the FIFA World Cup 2026™," says Anne Kang, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport. "This is the world's largest single-sport event and we're making sure everyone can share in the energy, pride and social benefits of hosting. Through this funding, we’re creating more opportunities for people in B.C. to feel connected to the World Cup experience closer to home."
“This event is about more than watching soccer—it is about creating opportunities for connection, celebrating community spirit and supporting the well-being of our residents,” says Mayor Nicole MacDonald. “We are grateful to the Province for this funding, which helps us deliver an inclusive event where everyone feels welcome to come together and share in the excitement of the World Cup.”
More details will be shared as plans are finalized. Residents are encouraged to save the date and join in the celebration.
Event details will be added to the City’s Community Calendar: pittmeadows.ca/calendar.
