Pitt Meadows Ranked #3 Most Livable City in Canada and #1 Small City by The Globe and Mail

PITT MEADOWS, BC – The City of Pitt Meadows has been recognized as the third most livable city in Canada and the number one small city, according to The Globe and Mail’s 2025 Most Livable Cities ranking. The ranking evaluated 454 cities across the country based on factors such as community, climate, economy, housing and healthcare.

“Livability in Pitt Meadows isn’t accidental—it’s the result of deliberate choices about how we grow, how we govern, and how we protect what makes this place special,” says Mayor Nicole MacDonald. “Pitt Meadows shows that you don’t have to choose between growth, nature and community—with the right values, you can have all three.”

Pitt Meadows offers residents a unique balance of natural beauty and urban convenience. Nestled between the Fraser River and the Golden Ears Mountains, the city combines accessible urban amenities with abundant greenspace and farmland, while maintaining a safe, welcoming and inclusive small-town community.

“Strong communities are defined by livability, and livability begins with trust—trust that decisions are made thoughtfully and purposefully, with the long term in mind,” says Chief Administrative Officer Mark Roberts. “From safe streets and reliable services to inclusive parks and sustainable infrastructure, we focus on the basics done exceptionally well. That’s why people choose to live here.”

Highlights contributing to the city’s top ranking include:

  • Community and Belonging: Residents enjoy strong civic engagement, volunteerism and signature events that foster connection and pride.

  • Agriculture and Heritage: With 78 per cent of the city’s land dedicated to farmland, Pitt Meadows preserves its heritage while supporting local economy and identity.

  • Accessibility and Inclusion: The City’s Accessibility Plan ensures parks, programs, community events and services are open to all residents and visitors.

  • Climate Action and Resilience: Strategies protect public health, the environment and long-term quality of life.

  • Economic Opportunity: Strategic investments in local businesses, tourism and housing create a vibrant and sustainable local economy.

“At the end of the day, livability is about stewardship—of the land, of each other and of the future,” added Mayor MacDonald. “This recognition reflects the people of Pitt Meadows and the values that guide our city every day.”
