Pitt Meadows: Fire Hall Officially Opens
After an extensive construction period spanning over two years, the City of Pitt Meadows proudly celebrated the official opening of the brand-new Pitt Meadows Fire Hall. Located at its original site on 19240 122A Ave, this state-of-the-art facility marks the City Council's steadfast dedication to investing in vital services for the community.
Mayor Nicole MacDonald expressed her satisfaction, stating, "The completion of the new hall is perfectly timed, aligning with Pitt Meadows Fire & Rescue Services' transition to round-the-clock coverage on June 5. The improved amenities and upgraded infrastructure in our Fire and Rescue Services give us even more reason to take pride in our Pitt Meadows ProudTM initiative!"
Spanning an impressive 25,000 square feet, the newly constructed fire hall exemplifies the City's unwavering commitment to enhancing fire safety and emergency response capabilities. Noteworthy features include a four-storey hose tower, four tandem bays, and a dedicated Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) designed to facilitate seamless coordination during local emergency activations.
Fire Chief Mike Larsson emphasized the significance of this critical facility, stating, "This building provides dedicated training facilities and ensures a safe work environment for firefighters, ultimately leading to the retention of well-trained personnel. Furthermore, the integrated Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) will bolster communication channels and enhance services during emergencies within our region."
Chief Administrative Officer Mark Roberts highlighted the responsible management of resources, saying, "The new fire hall and EOC were completed within the approved budget, representing a substantial investment in the safety and well-being of our community. These crucial enhancements guarantee that our Fire Department is equipped to respond effectively to emergencies for decades to come."
To commemorate this momentous occasion, the grand opening on May 31 featured a special hose uncoupling ceremony, symbolizing the official unveiling of the facility. The event also included speeches from Mayor Nicole MacDonald, Fire Chief Mike Larsson, and MLA Lisa Beare. A recording of the ceremony can be viewed here.
The City cordially invites community members to explore the new Fire Hall during Pitt Meadows Day on June 3, between 1-4 pm, further fostering a sense of inclusion and community engagement.
