Nominations Open for Special Maple Ridge 2024 BC Summer Games Awards
One of the legacies from the cancelled 2020 BC Summer Games that were to be held in Maple Ridge was the implementation of the ‘Karina LeBlanc Game Changer Award’ to be given to an athlete who is a game changer both on and off the field. The first recipient of the Karina Leblanc Game Changer Award was Anna Huber, an accomplished local athlete and volunteer.
“The Maple Ridge 2024 BC Summer Games motto is ‘Celebrating Competition & Community’ showing a shared commitment to building capacity and community pride as we host youth athletes from around BC,” said Maple Ridge BC Summer Games Society President Laura Butler.
She continued, “This year we are seeking nominations for both the Karina Leblanc Game Changer Award and a second award called the ‘BC Women & Sport Leadership Award’ that will be handed out during the upcoming Games to shine a spotlight on athletes who go above and beyond in their sport and in our community.”
“The upcoming Summer Games are our chance to shine as a community and to bring the spotlight on the incredible sports organizations and athletes here in Maple Ridge. Our City will welcome over 3000 youth athletes, coaches and sports officials from July 17 to 21, and these award recipients will be incredible ambassadors and a source of inspiration for everyone involved in the 2024 BC Summer Games,” said Maple Ridge Mayor Dan Ruimy.
