Council Accepts Registrar of Companies Outcome of the Pitt Meadows Community Foundation Review

PITT MEADOWS, BC – On January 16, 2023 the City was notified that the BC Provincial Registrar would not be conducting an investigation of the Pitt Meadows Community Foundation (PMCF) because the threshold of clear and compelling evidence had not been met. The City also learned that the Canada Revenue Agency recently restored the PMCF’s charitable status. This information means that the City of Pitt Meadows will not pursue this matter further.

“The City’s ultimate goal is for the PMCF to restore its role as a community enhancing organization,” says Mayor Nicole MacDonald.

Over the past three years, the City of Pitt Meadows has fielded concerns from residents related to PMCF, specifically the lack of active operations and failure to continue previous disbursement programs. The City also became aware that the PMCF lost its charitable status causing the City concern that significant financial losses of up to $150,000, earmarked for community benefit, could occur.

The City felt obligated to direct the community’s concerns to relevant agencies and requested that the Registrar of Companies investigate the PMCF under s. 213 of the BC Societies Act.

Council accepts the Registrar’s decision and encourages the PMCF to address the community’s concerns as soon as possible. The City looks forward to the PMCF’s positive contributions to Pitt Meadows in the future.
