Constable Rick O’Brien Youth Lounge Grand Opening
Constable Rick O’Brien Youth Lounge Grand Opening
PITT MEADOWS, BC – On Thursday, July 25, 2024, the City will be holding the grand opening of the Constable Rick O’Brien Youth Lounge located at the Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre, 12027 Harris Road.
The event is open to the public and will include an opening ceremony and ribbon cutting, followed by a BBQ and other activities. Mayor Nicole MacDonald, Terrance Pierre from q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie) First Nation, Nicole O’Brien, RCMP Superintendent Wendy Mehat, and Vancouver Bandits VP of Business Operations Andrew Savory will be speaking as part of the official program. Free parking is available at the Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre.
The re-opening of the lounge follows a small fire earlier this year, which temporarily displaced our youth to a supervised safe space in the Recreation Centre's main lobby during regular youth lounge hours.
The updated space is named in honour of RCMP member, Constable Rick O’Brien who was tragically shot and killed in the line of duty on September 22, 2023.
Additionally, the Vancouver Bandits partnered with the City and various sponsors to support the refurbishment of the outdoor basketball court outside of the Recreation Centre. The refreshed court will be renamed as the Constable Rick O’Brien Court, in honour of Cst. O’Brien.
