City of Pitt Meadows to Break Ground on Major Athletic Park Expansion

PITT MEADOWS, BC – The City of Pitt Meadows will soon break ground on the Pitt Meadows Athletic Park expansion after the construction contract was awarded to Cedar Crest Lands (BC) Ltd. at the Council Meeting on March 31, 2026. This significant investment in community recreation infrastructure will transform Pitt Meadows Athletic Park into a centralized sports hub, guided by the City’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan.

Previously announced by the Government of British Columbia in March 2023, this project is made possible through funding provided by the Province’s Growing Communities Fund, reflecting a shared commitment with the City to strengthen access to recreation and support the long-term well-being of Pitt Meadows residents.

“The amenities being added and improved at Pitt Meadows Athletic Park will create the kind of world-class recreation space our residents, athletes and families deserve,” says Mayor Nicole MacDonald. “We look forward to seeing this space come to life and welcoming the community back to an even better athletic park.”

The expansion will deliver a comprehensive suite of new amenities and upgrades designed to increase capacity for community sport, support local sport organizations, provide more opportunities for year-round recreation, and create a more inclusive and functional space for athletes, spectators and families.

New features and upgrades include:

  • A double artificial turf field
  • A covered multi-sport box
  • Accessory building with washrooms and changerooms for park users and spectators
  • New parking lot
  • Field lighting
  • Spectator seating
  • Better connections between the park, adjacent amenity lands and the Arena Complex

“The Pitt Meadows Athletic Park Expansion reflects our commitment to building parks that truly serve our community,” says Manager of Parks, Andy Messner. “The feedback we received from residents during the development of the Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan helped guide these new features and upgrades.”

Work is expected to begin in the coming weeks and to continue until the end of 2026. Temporary impacts related to construction—including possible closures, detours or parking changes—may occur during the project. Notices and updates will be posted on the City’s website as construction progresses.
