City of Pitt Meadows: Harris Road Underpass
City of Pitt Meadows: Harris Road Underpass
Backed by numerous local and regional organizations, the City of Pitt Meadows has taken the step of officially submitting a letter to the federal government, requesting assistance in advancing the Harris Road underpass project.
During the recent city council meeting, Mayor Nicole MacDonald expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received from influential individuals in their endeavor to see the underpass constructed.
Mayor MacDonald emphasized the importance of ensuring that the National Trade Corridor does not adversely affect the city's finances, livability, public safety, housing, growth, and transportation, among other vital aspects. She underscored that every mayor in the region unequivocally stands in solidarity with Pitt Meadows on this matter.
"This project is so important for the community of Pitt Meadows," says Executive Director, Kristi Maier. "The current traffic situation at the railway crossing on Harris Road has become increasingly problematic, causing frustrating delays. By constructing an underpass, we can alleviate these issues and ensure a smoother flow of traffic. This will not only improve the daily commute for residents but also benefit local businesses."
The Ridge Meadows Chamber - being one of the many organizations to write a letter of support for the City - will continue to offer its support during this time. "Economically, the underpass project presents an exciting opportunity for growth. By reducing traffic congestion, we can enhance the efficiency of transportation, allowing businesses to thrive and attracting new investments. The underpass construction will also generate employment opportunities, benefiting local workers and the broader economy. This project is a win-win situation for our community's development and economic prosperity."
