City of Maple Ridge Awarded $16.5 Million Major Growing Communities Grant
The City of Maple Ridge has been awarded $16.5 million to invest in key community infrastructure projects from the BC Government’s Major Growing Communities Fund. These new dollars will be used by Council to achieve progress on key projects to support critical road, community, and green infrastructure in the upcoming five-year financial plan.
“We want to thank Premier Eby and the BC Government for this much-needed investment in our fast-growing community,” said Mayor Ruimy. “We look forward to the continued collaboration with our local MLAs, Lisa Beare and Bob D’Eith, who have been strong allies and advocates in Victoria. This is a great example of working collaboratively with other levels of government in the best interests of the community to address key municipal needs.” On Feb.10 Premier David Eby announced the $1-billion Growing Communities Fund to provide one-time direct grants to all 188 B.C. municipalities and regional districts by March 2023. Through this funding, municipalities will be empowered to address their unique infrastructure and amenities demands, such as recreation facilities, parks, and water treatment plants, as well as other community infrastructure. “We are in the process of finalizing the Council’s Strategic Plan and the City’s five-year financial plan, and this grant will help us advance our priorities and capital projects that are essential to sustainable growth in our community,” continued Mayor Ruimy. “The flexibility the BC Government has provided will allow us to prioritize how these dollars will be invested to address pressing needs in our community.”
Quotes “I am pleased to share this news of the strategic one-time investment funds that our government is providing to Maple Ridge through the Growing Communities Fund,” said Lisa Beare, MLA for Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows. “I am confident that the City will make good use of these funds to invest in key infrastructure projects serving local residents responding to their needs.”
“This historic investment into municipalities across the province from our government will deliver much-needed infrastructure that will serve people, families, and community together,” said Bob D’Eith, MLA for Maple Ridge-Mission. “We are here to support the City of Maple Ridge in response to its rapid growth and look forward to seeing what projects can be realized with the help of these funds.”
