"New ‘Choose Maple Ridge’ Street Banners Inspire Residents to Support Local"

Maple Ridge, B.C., April 29, 2025 – Bold new ‘Choose Maple Ridge – Support Local’ street banners are now up across the city, encouraging residents to support local businesses and celebrate all that Maple Ridge has to offer.
The banners are part of the City's ongoing Choose Maple Ridge campaign, which highlights the importance of keeping dollars local to strengthen the community, especially in the face of recent economic challenges like U.S. tariffs. Calls to action highlighted on the banners encourage residents and visitors to ‘Explore & Play’, ‘Dine & Indulge’, and ‘Shop & Share’. Imagery of local people, businesses, and iconic spots create a vibrant visual reminder of why supporting Maple Ridge businesses matters.
“These banners represent more than just decoration—they’re a daily reminder of the power behind local support and why now more than ever it’s essential to take a Team Canada mindset,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “When you choose Maple Ridge, you’re supporting your neighbours, boosting the local economy, and investing in the future of our city.”
Alongside the banners, the City is rolling out additional ways for the community to get involved:
- Businesses can sign up at MapleRidge.ca/ChooseMapleRidge to receive a free promotional toolkit, including window decals, social media features, and support materials.
- Residents can find business resources, tariff information, and upcoming engagement opportunities at MapleRidge.ca/BusinessSupport.
Choosing Local This Summer
The launch of the new banners kicks off a busy summer season in Maple Ridge, filled with local events and initiatives that support the local economy, including:
- Haney Farmers Market taking place every Saturday at Memorial Peace Park
- Be Downtown initiatives like Free Parkade Parking on weekends, ‘Social Saturdays’ pedestrian-only events, Sparkle Week downtown cleanup, and Community Safety Booths
- The return of the Our Neck of the Woods Festival, celebrating live music, art, food, and local businesses
- The Momentum Economic Growth & Success Expo on May 22, featuring a job and education fair, business workshops, and expert panels.
“Our new locally focused street banners complement the many initiatives, activities, and events across downtown Maple Ridge as we head into summer,” said Chantalle Moerman, Acting President of the Downtown Maple Ridge Business Improvement Association. “They will serve as a vibrant reminder to residents and fellow business owners of the importance and benefits of supporting our incredible downtown businesses.”
“Supporting local businesses this summer has never been more important,” said Kristi Maier, CEO of the Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce. “The intentional but simple choice of choosing Maple Ridge by keeping our dollars local where possible makes a dramatic difference to our city’s economic resilience. We are excited that this bold call to action is now represented in such a prominent way across our beautiful city.”
