The 2023 Canada Summer Jobs Program has opened employer applications which can provide non-profit and small businesses with funding to hire young Canadians over the spring and summer in the upcoming year.

Non-profit organizations and business with 50 or fewer full-time employees can apply to the wage subsidy to help them hire youth between the ages of 15 and 30. Non-profits will be able to receive up to 100% of the minimum wage subsidized and it will cover 50% of the minimum wage for businesses. 

Organization Eligibility 

Non profits can apply, and include community, charitable or voluntary organizations, including faith-based organizations, as well as professional and industrial organizations, unions, Indigenous non-profits, and other NGOs

Private sector employers can be incorporated or unincorporated, including partnerships and sole proprietorships, but must have 50 or fewer full time employees at the time of application

Job Eligibility 

Jobs must last at least 6 weeks, and be funded for up to 16 weeks.   

Jobs must be full-time (30 up to 40 hours per week)

Jobs can start as early as April 24 or as late as July 24, and must end at the latest on September 2, 2023.  

Salary for the youth must meet at least the BC minimum wage

Youth must be covered under the employer's workers compensation insurance

Wage Subsidy
 

Private sector employers can receive funding to cover 50% of the BC minimum wage ($15.65)

Non profit employers can receive funding for 100% of the minimum wage, plus related mandatory employment related costs (MERCs)

The subsidy will be provided to employers as a reimbursement following submission of a report by the employer, but an advance of up to 75% can be provided as an initial payment
