Ridge Meadows Chamber Responds to Province’s New “Look West” Economic Strategy
MAPLE RIDGE & PITT MEADOWS, BC – The Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce is responding to the Province of British Columbia’s release of Look West: Jobs and Prosperity for a Stronger British Columbia and Canada, a new long-term economic strategy aimed at shaping the next decade of growth across the province.
Kristi Maier, CEO of the Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce, released the following statement:
“Local businesses in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows are eager for a strong, stable, and predictable economic environment—and the Province’s new Look West strategy acknowledges many of the areas that matter most to our region.”
“We are encouraged to see attention placed on strengthening investment, accelerating project development, and improving the permitting system. A meaningful reduction in permitting times is essential. Whether it’s construction, resource development, manufacturing, or local innovation, businesses cannot thrive in a climate where approvals take months or years longer than necessary. Faster, clearer processes are foundational to future job creation and economic stability here at home.”
“The emphasis on diversifying markets and reducing reliance on any single trading partner is also important to Ridge Meadows businesses. Many of our members rely on access to new markets, efficient supply chains, and the removal of internal trade barriers to stay competitive and grow.”
“Additionally, the strategy’s recognition of labour challenges—and the commitment to invest in skills training—reflects what we’re seeing locally. Talent shortages continue to be one of the biggest pressures for our members. Expanding and modernizing skilled trades training is essential for addressing workforce gaps across multiple sectors.”
“While Look West paints a strong vision for what the next decade could look like, businesses will be looking for clear details on the legislative and policy changes required to bring that vision to life. Strong economic goals must be paired with concrete action to ensure British Columbia attracts the level of private-sector investment needed to make these outcomes possible.”
“As a Chamber, we are committed to working with government and regional partners to ensure that policies and decisions reflect the realities facing businesses in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. Our members want to see meaningful, measurable improvements—not just in vision, but in implementation.”
At the provincial level, the Ridge Meadows Chamber supports the perspective of the BC Chamber of Commerce, which has also called for greater clarity and a strong focus on actionable steps that will enable investment and economic growth across British Columbia.
