Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce Applauds National Step Toward a Single Canadian Market
The Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce welcomes this week's announcement of the Canadian Mutual Recognition Agreement (CMRA), a landmark commitment signed in Yellowknife by all provinces, territories, and the federal government to reduce interprovincial trade barriers and move Canada closer to a truly unified national market.
The new agreement aims to streamline regulations across jurisdictions, making it easier for businesses to operate, expand, and access new markets nationwide. By reducing administrative duplication and removing unnecessary regulatory hurdles, the CMRA is expected to increase productivity, spur innovation, and support long-term economic growth.
Kristi Maier, CEO of the Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce, released the following statement:
“This is a major win for businesses of all sizes — including the many small and medium enterprises that form the backbone of the Ridge Meadows economy. Moving towards a single Canadian market will help the economy grow, businesses prosper, and communities flourish.
For too long, businesses have faced unnecessary challenges when trying to expand across provincial borders. Today’s agreement sends a strong message that Canada is committed to strengthening competitiveness, encouraging investment, and supporting the people who create jobs in our communities. We are proud to support the BC Chamber’s long-standing advocacy on this issue.”
The Ridge Meadows Chamber also extends recognition to the Province of British Columbia for its leadership in advocating for the reduction of interprovincial trade barriers. This collective effort by all provinces, territories, and the federal government represents an important step toward strengthening economic resilience, reducing reliance on the U.S. market, and creating new opportunities for Canadian businesses to scale within their own country.
The Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce will continue to support policies that promote economic growth, reduce barriers, and strengthen the prosperity of Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, and the broader provincial economy.
