The Chamber bylaws are the rules that are set out to govern and operate the Chamber. They are formulated by the Board of Directors, approved by membership and ultimately approved by Corporations Canada on behalf of the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.

In May, the Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors struck a task force to review the Chamber bylaws. Each bylaw was examined by itself and also in the context of the other bylaws. Although this was an onerous process, we felt it was critical to continue to evolve as a Chamber. First, we want our bylaws to reflect our organization’s growth. Since the start of 2022, the Chamber has been on an upward trajectory in membership, number of networking and training events, and Signature events. When you are driving membership and different events, you need the bylaws to evolve with this growth. Second, we need to modernize some of our processes and procedures as we move into this new chapter of the Chamber. Election processes, membership management, and board governance have all been reviewed and updated. The board will have more responsibility to work together for the betterment of the Chamber. There are some updates to not only the structure of the board but also to the roles of the executive. The board itself has become more diverse and representative of the entire business community of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows and we want to continue in that direction.
 
On August 22 nd, at our General Meeting, we will be looking for membership approval of our new bylaws in order to advance to the next stage of Ministerial approval.  We invite all members to participate in this pivotal moment, as we continue to shape the future of the Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce together.
